Workshops

Siân is an experienced facilitator, with a full DBS, who is confident working with all age ranges and abilities. Currently working as the Puppetry Tutor with The Creative Dimensions Trust, she previously worked as the puppetry tutor for the Mary Ward Centre. She has led workshops for The National Theatre, Les Enfants Terribles, Movingstage Marionettes, Polka Theatre, Albany Theatre, Newcastle Moving Parts festival and Skipton Puppet festival and has been a guest lecturer at the Central School of Speech and Drama and Falmouth University.

All of Siân's workshops can be tailored according to group size, budget and specific requirements and can incorporate curriculum or goal based learning. She is also experienced working with people who have additional learning or complex needs and aims for all of her workshops to be as enabling and inclusive as possible.

Table top puppet making

  • Create your own individual table-top puppet using either mixed textiles or Worbla (a thermoplastic)

  • Learn how to turn a 2-D design into a 3-D puppet.

  • An Introduction to tools, materials and varied making techniques.

  • An introduction to animating your finished puppet. 

  • Suitable for groups of 4-8 people (ages 14+)

  • Principals of operating table-top and object puppets.

  • Character development.

  • Imbuing emotion and intention in to puppets.

  • Understanding gravity, weight and the importance of stillness

  • Individual and group explorative exercises. 

  • Suitable for groups of 8-20 people (Ages 8+)

Boney Wonders marionettes

  • Design, make and learn how to operate your own unique marionette (or string puppet)

  • Work with bone, found objects and natural materials.

  • An Introduction to power tools and glues. 

  • Learn about the importance of tension, weight and gravity.

  • An introduction to animating your finished puppet. 

  • Suitable for groups of 4-10 people (ages 14+)

Growing Puppet Project 

  • The Growing Puppet Project combines botanical puppet-making workshops and story-telling.

  • Each workshop includes a story-telling element relating to the history of  puppetry and the folklore connected to the plants explored during the session.

  • Participants create a puppet using foraged,  seasonal plants from the space the workshop is held in.

  • Explore botanical knowledge, related ecological and folklore narratives and local/seasonal ingredients.

  • Held outside in all weathers. 

  • Suitable for groups of 5-30 (All ages)

Shadow Puppet Making 

  • Design and make a shadow puppet. 

  • Learn how to turn a 2-D design into a 3-D puppet.

  • Learn about joints, pivots, silhouette, light and dark. 

  • Explore myths, legends, folklore and fairytales. 

  • Work in groups to create short performances. 

  • Suitable for groups of 6-30+ people (Ages 4+)
